How we chose the species for each grade
Each grade-band collection draws from the larger Nature Sketch Pages library but limits itself to species and categories that fit the reading and attention level of that age group. K–2 leans on the most-recognized animals and the simplest fun facts; 3–5 broadens to the full biological vocabulary; 6–8 keeps everything plus the deeper-cut species and the dinosaur collection.
The grade tags are advisory, not restrictive. A motivated second-grader can absolutely color a hagfish, and a sixth-grader will still happily color a lion. Use the bands as a starting filter, then swap pages in and out based on your students' interests.
